Job Summary:

Responsible for scheduling and coordination of transportation to deliver aggregate and asphalt products, equipment, and other supplies; ensures DOT compliance related to trucking & logistics.

Main Responsibilities

Dispatching

• Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams

• Support, promote, and practice the Company's core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies

• Establish delivery schedules to target efficiency and profitability according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery site, and unloading time; assign drivers for scheduled deliveries

• Maintain and streamline order entry and dispatch systems and processes

• Maintain regular communication with drivers and customers to ensure delivery deadlines are met; relay work orders, messages, or information to operations and manufacturing crews

• Track delivery times, transport costs, and efficiency; review established key performance indicators to assess performance and recommend/implement improvements

• Establish win-win relationships with external haulers to provide the best transportation services at the lowest sustainable cost; find opportunities to lower freight rates

• Collaborate with shop to coordinate repair and preventative maintenance of trucking equipment

• Ensure records and information related to trucking operations are stored and maintained in an effective manner

• Maintain effective collaboration with other employees, internal/external customers, suppliers, and third-party partners

Compliance

• Formulate oversize and overweight permits to meet DOT guidelines; ensure loads are in compliance with height and width requirements as well as route verification

• Monitor Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) scores and activities; make recommendations to management regarding improvement

• Collaborate with safety and human resources team to ensure adherence to DOT regulations related to commercial driver compliance

Skills:


• 3+ years of experience working in logistics, aggregate product production or similar environment; direct experience with truck dispatching or similar role preferred

• Self-directed, driven by results, and highly motivated requiring minimal direct guidance

• Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups of people

• Ability to work independently, adapt to changing situations, prioritize, and problem-solve in a dynamic environment

• Proficiency in use of computers including MS Office programs, project planning, and dispatch/logistics software

• Sound knowledge of DOT, OSHA, MSHA, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations

Education:


• Highschool diploma or equivalent; associates degree preferred

• Valid drivers' license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle record required; CDL preferred

Physical Requirements:


• Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety guidelines

• Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 25 pounds with or without assistance

• Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

• Frequently required to sit and use a computer for long periods

• Exposure to typical construction site conditions, including equipment and machinery, dust and loud noise, and weather

• Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device

• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) and perform tasks requiring visual acuity

• Some travel may be required to attend meetings/training, and/or visit work sites
