SUMMARY:

Responsible for describing the rich history of Japanese Anime animation art as well as modern-day "Everything Cool" Animation Art (i.e., "Batman the Animated Series," The Simpson's," "Ren and Stimpy" "Sponge Bob Square Pants" "Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas" and more) This position reports to the Vice President of Animation and Anime Art. This position entails writing and researching the authenticity of the artwork, writing about the historical importance of anime and Everything Cool Animation Art, carefully examining and communicating artwork condition, and writing detailed narrative descriptions for lots of animation production cels, animation drawings, storyboards, layout drawings, production backgrounds, model sheets, concept art, historical animation and studio ephemera, and so much more.

This is NOT a graphic/illustration designer position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Including the following:

  • Candidate must be well acquainted with animation art, including but not restricted to knowledge of specific animation films and TV specials and of the studios that produce them.
  • Evaluates animation/anime art, including production art, drawings, concept art, cels, and cel background art.
  • Knowledge of Disney Animation Art and Anime Animation art
  • Schedules animation/anime art consignments for auction.
  • Writes descriptions for online and catalog display based on notes from the consignor, the Director of Animation/Anime Art, and based on personal knowledge.
  • Answers inquiries.
  • Assists at previews and actively participates in auctions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a high school degree or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of two years of education and/or experience in working with evaluating animation art, or the ability to demonstrate comparable expertise
  • Must have extensive knowledge of hand-drawn animation history and a detailed understanding of physical animation art required

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be highly proficient in basic Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, high ability to multitask, pay great attention to detail, and have a positive attitude with exceptional customer service skills.
  • Public speaking talents are a plus
