Responsibilities
RN New Grad and Transition
St. Mary's Medical Center- Long Beach
Start Date: July 22, 2024

Overview:
The New Graduate Residency Program features a challenging program, blending classroom didactics with clinical experience and unit socialization. This program is for recent graduates of RN programs who have graduated within one year prior to the start of the program.
This residency programs will consist of:
- 12-24 weeks of classroom and online educational presentations. Must be available to attend all scheduled dates during the orientation weeks.
- Initial follow-up competency validation and development plans
- Clinical rotation under the supervision of qualified preceptors
- Ongoing meetings with the clinical educator, preceptor and others to assure progression and advancement on the continuum from novice to competent performance.
At the completion of the program, the participants will be able to:
- Successfully handle adult patient assignments
- Demonstrate a complete physical and psychosocial assessment on a patient
- Take appropriate problem-solving actions when confronted with a clinical or administrative dilemma
- Work cooperatively and effectively with physicians, family members and other members of the healthcare team.
- Our program is facilitated by nurse experts with special emphasis on: clinical skills, critical thinking skills, leadership abilities, communication skills, patient safety, and professional career development.
Purpose:
The purpose of the program is to foster a successful transition from student, to the role of RN and to facilitate the New Grad to develop personally and professionally within the auspices of a caring and collaborative environment to become a competent nurse in the acute care setting.
Provides professional nursing care in accordance with the nursing process and BRN scope of practice.

Department selection will be decided upon completion of the interview process.
Timeline:
- Requisitions posted April 1-10. The postings may be removed early, after 100 applications have been received.
- Interviews will be held in person the week of April 29, 2024
- Offers will be extended no later than May 22, 2024
- First day of Orientation is June 3, 2024
Qualifications:
- Current California license as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimal education as required for licensure. BSN preferred.
- Current American Heart Association BLS

- Considerations are given to eligible CSH employees who apply to the program as well as external candidates based on their academic background, CSH internship/externship/clinical rotation experience, and their passion to work in a health care system that respects diversity with an emphasis on patient-focused care. - Completion of an EKG class (tele)
- A Current AHA-BLS certification
- A current AHA-ACLS certification (tele)
- Transcripts
- Letter(s) of recommendation from a nursing school professor or clinical educator that focus on clinical competencies and professionalism (please use official letterhead)
- Personal statement of interest
