Description

Reporting to the Director of Grounds, the Groundskeeper maintains campus landscape, litter and trash removal, stadium and parking field maintenance, snow/ice control, turf and athletic field maintenance, installation of new and renovation of existing landscapes, maintain and repair grounds equipment, and set-up and breakdown of outdoor campus events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Knowledge of materials and procedures relating to grounds maintenance including fence repair/installation, grading, irrigation, fertilization, aeration and horticulture (i.e., tree and shrub care, soil preparation, seeding, plants, turf care) and safe working methods and procedures.
  • Must be familiar with the care and safe operation of hand and power gardening tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Must possess the ability to repeatedly lift at least 50 pounds, work vibrating hand-held power tools for extended periods, perform kneeling, bending and squatting motions, and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions for extended time periods.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (written and verbal) and interact effectively with a broad range of co-workers, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Comprehension of new information related to horticultural practices is required.
  • Must have the ability to accurately understand work orders, diagrams, and other work-related documents.
  • Ability to work overtime as required by the CBA for project work, snowstorms, maintenance, and campus emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Hours: Monday through Friday from 6am to 2pm. Regular weekly schedule may be seasonally adjusted.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in horticulture (or related field) as well as commercial grounds equipment and machinery required.
  • Must possess and maintain a current and valid NYS Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A current CNLP certification, DEC Pesticide License and/or ISA Certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Salary/Salary Range

$39.19 per hour
