The Government Wide STEM direct hire authority for Chemist GS-1320 is being used to fill this position.

Salary: $96,148.00 (Step 01) to $124,988.00 (Step 10);

NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.



Duties

As a CHEMIST within the CALIFORNIA WATER SCHIENCE CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Design and conduct interdisciplinary scientific studies related to organic contaminants in the environment.
  • Develop new/unique applications, procedures, or techniques to achieve technically advanced results.
  • Utilize assigned researchers to achieve project objectives.
  • Coordinate with Government and Non-Government Organizations to maximize research efforts, share data, and identify new areas of research.
  • Author/Write/Edit authoritative scientific reports, journal articles, and other documents related to assigned research projects.

Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. There may be some walking, prolonged standing, bending, and carrying of equipment or items weighing as much as 50 lbs. Episodic field work may involve lifting heavy objects or wading in streams in all types of weather.

Work Environment: The work involves regular and recurring exposure to irritant chemicals. Special safety precautions are required, and the employee must use protective clothing and gear in the laboratory as required for high noise levels, eye hazards, chemical hazards, and other possible hazards present. Wear appropriate safety gear and clothing, e.g., safety glasses, respirator, apron, etc. as prescribed by safety directives. Infrequent field work can be in hot, cold, rugged, isolated, or dusty environments.
