Assistant or Associate Professor, Chip Design and Electronic Design Automation

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering ) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invite applications for a position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek to hire one candidate with evidence of potential or sustained scholarly achievement in computer chip design with a particular focus on VLSI, EDA, circuits, and/or verification. We are especially interested in candidates who can collaborate within the departments and across the university. Appointment will be made in either the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department and candidates should express their preference, if any, in their cover letter.

The departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) are part of the Baskin School of Engineering at UC Santa Cruz. UC Santa Cruz is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), an association of the top research universities in the US. Baskin Engineering is home to six departments contributing to the richness of its research in materials, devices and instruments; engineering mathematics; computing; and health engineering. Nestled in a redwood forest above the city of Santa Cruz and close to Silicon Valley, our beautiful residential campus has a rich history of embracing groundbreaking interdisciplinary work and building deep research ties with the local high-tech industry. Our proximity to Silicon Valley, including a second campus in Santa Clara, affords unique and exciting opportunities for collaboration with industry researchers, as well as with faculty and students at other San Francisco Bay Area universities.

UC Santa Cruz has long been a leader in open source and open science. Baskin Engineering sees openness as important to further the impact of the school's research and education missions. Baskin Engineering researchers assembled and "open sourced" the first sequencing of the human genome in 2000 through the Genome Browser, ensuring open access to the genome and the information it contains, allowing scientists and researchers worldwide to benefit from its data. Baskin Engineering is home to the Center for Research in Open Source Software and has been a leader in developing open hardware design techniques. The successful candidate will join the Hardware Systems Collective ) in promoting these goals.

The chosen candidate will be expected to sign a statement representing that they are not the subject of any ongoing investigation or disciplinary proceeding at their current academic institution or place of employment, nor have they in the past ten years been formally disciplined at any academic institution/place of employment. In the event the candidate cannot make this representation, they will be expected to disclose in writing to the hiring Dean the circumstances surrounding any formal discipline that they have received, as well as any current or ongoing investigation or disciplinary process of which they are the subject. (Note that discipline includes a negotiated settlement agreement to resolve a matter related to substantiated misconduct.)

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a relevant field; a demonstrated record of research. For the Assistant Professor rank, it is expected that the degree requirements will be completed by June 30, 2025.
