Position Details:

We seek two individuals committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching to join the Computer Science teaching faculty as a Teaching Assistant Professor, which is our equivalent to a Professor of Practice. A master's in Computer Science or a closely related field is required; a Ph.D. is preferred. We are looking to hire at least one individual interested in focusing on teaching non-majors and/or first year computer science majors, and at least one individual who is interested in teaching across the computer science major. Interest in supporting our data science undergraduate and MS programs is also welcome. Applicants should feel comfortable teaching computer science majors, and will have the opportunity to teach upper-level electives based on expertise. Applicants beginning their teaching careers are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Teaching load is four courses each in fall and spring, with no required summer teaching. Generally faculty teach at most two different courses in any given semester. The candidate will assist the department in curricular development, review, and assessment, as well as contribute to the educational mission of Loyola University Maryland. Teaching faculty are full members of the department, who vote on department decisions and influence department curriculum.

Required Qualifications
  • Masters' degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Demonstrated computer science knowledge if degree is in another field
  • Expertise in Java, Python, or a similar high-level programming language

Preferred Qualifications
Any of the following preferred qualifications will help a candidate stand out:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
  • Teaching experience in majors-level computer science courses
  • Teaching experience at a four-year higher education institution
  • A desire to and/or experience in teaching in the liberal arts context
  • A demonstrated appreciation of or engagement in high-impact teaching practices
  • Commitment to the goals of education in the Jesuit tradition
  • An awareness of approaches for creating a sense of inclusion and belonging in the classroom
