POSITION DESCRIPTION
With a commitment to excellence and diversity, the University of California, San Diego Department of Education Studies (EDS) invites applications for the position of Non-Senate Faculty (NSF) Lecturer. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one year; some appointments begin in the fall quarter and others in winter and spring quarters. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter and may be renewed based on need and performance. Successful applicants may have an opportunity to teach in our Summer Session's course offerings.

EDS is an interdisciplinary department committed to equity and grounded in a close intersection between research and practice. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in our graduate level professional preparation programs, which will be assigned based on expertise:

· MEd/Multiple Subjects Credential
· MEd/Single Subjects Credential in: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and World Languages
· MA in American Sign Language – English Bilingual Education, including Multiple Subject and Education Specialist: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Credentials

In addition to having demonstrated the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity, the preferred candidates will have experience or demonstrated contributions to a climate that supports equity, inclusion and diversity.

General Duties:

EDS Professional Preparation courses meet face-to-face unless otherwise indicated and may be scheduled during the day, late afternoons, or in the evening on the UCSD campus. In addition to teaching responsibilities, duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students and preparing course materials. Duties may also include: assisting in program events, trainings, and meetings; assisting with student teacher field placements and communicating with cooperating teachers; reading and responding to candidate lesson plans and other written materials each week; conducting a minimum of four formal classroom observations per candidate each quarter at assigned placement school sites during the P-12 school day; attending evening seminar courses; and completing candidate evaluations, program reports and required documentation according to deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Master's degree or at least 6 years of P-12 classroom teaching experience
Valid California Professional Clear Teaching Credential authorizing English learner instruction
At least 2 years of experience mentoring and/or supporting student teachers, intern teachers, and/or apprentice teachers;
At least 6 years of experience working with (or in) San Diego County Schools;
At least 2 years experience in working on collaborative teams;
At least 2 years of experience following the most current, adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks and accountability systems;
At least 1 year of teacher leadership experience at the school, district, or county levels;
At least 6 years of strong and demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, diversity and the improvement of public education.
Preferred qualifications
California teaching credential(s) in an additional content area or in Special Education, Bilingual Authorization and/or bilingual skills
At least 1 quarter/semester of experience teaching at the postsecondary level
At least 1 year of experience recruiting and preparing teachers
Expertise in education technology.
