Highland, United States San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Full time

The San Manuel Fire Department's mandate is to provide emergency and non-emergency services to protect the lives and property of tribal citizens, employees, patrons, and guests of the San Manuel reservation as well as to safeguard environmental, cultural and economic resources. The department is called upon to ensure fire safety on the reservation and to protect the lives of those within the community. Also critical in the San Manuel Fire Department's mission is to develop, implement and maintain innovative prevention programs and strategies, lifesaving and safety education and training to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians community. The department fosters partnerships with other tribal departments, as well as outside public safety agencies, to promote a dynamic emergency response capability. Under supervision of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter A accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property. Participates in the combating, extinguishing and prevention of fires as well as providing emergency medical care; rescue and protection of individuals from hazardous environments. Maintains fire station, grounds, and equipment, participates in fire prevention inspection, fire prevention, and suppression training.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to San Manuel employees, the general public and Tribal Citizens while maintaining confidential information.


2. Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials situations and other emergency/non-emergency calls to protect life and property endangered.


3. Performs all firefighter duties; lays and connects hoses; directs water streams in the control and extinguishing of fires in structures, brush and grass; uses forcible entry tools, bars, hooks, ladders, extinguishers and other equipment.


4. Raises and climbs ladders; ventilates structures; accomplishes salvage operations.


5. Administers emergency medical care to treat patients; performs Basic Life Support (BLS); assist paramedics with Advance Life Support (ALS).


6. Operates a two-way radio to communicate with the communications center.


7. Participates in fire prevention programs and inspections to enforce fire prevention codes and ordinances.


8. Works 48-Hour shifts and overtime; may be recalled or held on duty according to the response needs of the Fire Department.


9. Operates a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.


10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.



Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Environmental Safety -Demonstrates pride in the entire facility by maintaining a clean, safe work environment for guests and co-workers. Consistently demonstrates personal ownership for cleanliness and maintaining exceptional housekeeping standards within the department, facility and all Tribal owned properties. Consistently demonstrates concern for personal safety and the safety of guests, vendors and other team members by immediately addressing or reporting all unsafe acts and/or conditions.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company's insurance carrier.

Required

  • EMT-I (Must be valid in State of California).
  • Completion of California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Academy or California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I Certificate.
  • Current AHA CPR Healthcare Provider or equivalent.
  • Annual continuing medical education sufficient to maintain active licensing and accreditation.
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational (CSTI or equivalent).
  • ICS 100-Introduction to ICS, ICS 200-Basic ICS.
  • IS 700 NIMS: An Introduction.
  • Must furnish upon initial employment with San Manuel Fire Department, proof of successful completion of any California recognized physical ability test (Biddle, CPAT, or any other recognized PAT) within the last twelve (12) months).


Preferred:

  • Fire Control III and Fire Control VII.
  • S 190.
  • Driver/Operator 1A.
  • California State Fire Marshal Firefighter II Certificate
  • One (1) year experience as a fire fighter (Career, Volunteer, or PCF).
  • Hazardous Materials IC, ASO, WMD IQ, Tech and/or Decon
