We are in search of a Assistant Medical Director to join our Hospital Medicine team at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital:
This is an opportunity to practice with an expanding hospitalist service at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Our hospital provides an incredible impact to the healthcare of Northwestern Connecticut.

In the Hospitalist service we work to lessen waiting in the emergency room, speed up diagnosis and treatments, reduce hospital stays while improving outcomes and continuity of care.

Hospitalists provide support for Primary Care Physicians and rapid response to all hospitalized patients.


Under the direction of the Medical Director of Hospitalist Services Department, works closely with physicians and nurses and other clinical manager to deliver timely, safe, effective, high quality patient care while ensuring the department meets hospital regulatory and key performance indicators.

Responsible for managing provider staff, achieving department quality and fiscal targets, patient care, discharge and recommendations for follow-up with providers as required.

Displays, upholds and leads the HHC H3W behaviors and values and compliance with HHC policies and procedures throughout all work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Vision and Strategy
o Contributes to development of vision and strategic policies for CHH Hospital Medicine department in collaboration with Director.

  • Quality and Safety
o Collaborates with Medical Director of Q&S on hospital and departmental initiatives.

o Disseminates and upholds policies, models safe behaviors while upholding quality standards. Utilizes daily huddle board to both disseminate and track quality metrics.


o Monitors hospitalist team performance on quality metrics against standards and collaborates with the Director for opportunities for improvement and initiatives.


  • Operations


o Supports Director on development of operating plans, policies and procedures; implements and ensures compliance and accountability of hospitalist staff with operational policies and procedures.

o Organizes daily census lists for hospitalists.


o Accountable for departmental length of stay, leading daily progression rounds in both the morning and afternoon in conjunction with case management, and nursing leadership.

o Responsible for enacting HHC-determined initiatives for improving LOS and patient care metrics. Runs daily huddle board and track departmental drivers. Enact strategies to improve drivers as indicated.

o Addresses hospitalist-department specific initiatives.

  • Leadership
o Champions organizations culture and initiatives.

o Mentors and coaches hospitalist teammates and fostering collaborative environment.

o Adheres to all HR policies and processes including recruiting, performance management, etc.

o Oversees staffing and formulation of hospitalist scheduling by departmental administrative coordinator.

o Assists Director in departmental succession planning and staff development.

o Advances the Hospitalist Program by attracting and retaining top quality physicians.

o Coordinates in-patient teaching and supports education of residents and medical students.

o Collaborates and communicates effectively, promotes cooperation across stakeholders and hospital units (e.g., nursing, case management, ED, BH, etc.),

Patient Care:


o Provides direct patient care including but not limited to initial patient assessment, ordering and evaluation of appropriate tests, treatment, discharge and recommendations for follow-up with other healthcare providers as required.

o Develops and maintains good customer relations and ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.

Qualifications

  • Board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, in the State of Connecticut
