POSITION: Unified Arts Coach
REPORTS TO: Director/Asst. Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Unified Arts (UA) Coach facilitates the development, refinement, and implementation of curriculum and high leverage instructional strategies in the areas of Music, Visual Art, Dance, Theater, Health and Physical Education across the district. The UA Coach models' effective instructional strategies and supports teachers in current best practices through facilitation and support of Professional Learning. This individual will assist teachers in differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with District leadership to evaluate, select, and implement UA learning experiences addressing the National Core Arts Standards and The CT Healthy and Balanced Living Framework Standards
· Delivers appropriate coaching, training, and resources to support the professional growth of UA teachers
· Keeps abreast and knowledgeable UA content, instructional best practices, and tools for education, necessary to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers
· Keeps abreast of the latest research in how UA affects Pre-K – 12 students and ensures that this research is considered when making curricular/instructional decisions
· Keeps abreast of educational technology solutions and recommends products in alignment with the HPS Strategic Operating Plan
· Coaches teachers in the implementation of competencies from the HPS Portrait of a Graduate through UA subject areas
· Plans, facilitates, and monitors professional learning, working with teachers and administrators to refine their capacities to support all students in UA
· Promotes student engagement in Health and Physical Education by assisting with planning, organizing, executing district and school events
· Collaborates with other content area coaches to align systems, structures, and practices across content areas
· Collaborates with community Arts and Wellness partners to enhance programming
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· Master's degree in education and a minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
· Experience with curriculum, instruction, and assessment in Unified Arts subject areas
· Understanding of adult learning and effective professional learning facilitation
· Knowledge of K-12 UA Standards (NCAS and CT Healthy and Balancing Living Framework)
· Understanding of student-centered learning and research-based practices for improving teaching and learning
· Experience gathering data and monitoring progress toward learning goals
· Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in an educational setting
· Experience working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse student and family populations
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: At least One of the following CT Certifications are required: 043 -Health, 044-Physical Education, 049- Music, 042- Art, 483- Dance, 485 - Theater/Drama
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary Grid, in accordance with the Hartford Federation of Teachers (HFT) contract
