Nevada, United States Nedap Full time

(Senior) Ruby on Rails Developer

Your task
Nedap Retail develops RF and RFID systems for retail. More than 100,000 devices around the world help retailers work more efficiently and customer-focused, prevent theft and provide customers with a better shopping experience. These devices are connected devices and are connected to our cloud software. There the devices are configured and managed by our customers and the extensive data from the systems is processed.

Our customer-facing applications are written in Ruby on Rails and are the beating heart of our connected devices architecture. Our systems are complex and the scale at which they are deployed worldwide is huge. This makes our platform unique and also means that usability plays a very important role, which we pay a lot of attention to together with our UX specialists. We want to provide software that our users enjoy working with.

You as (Senior) Ruby on Rails Developer will have the lead role in future extensions and modifications to these customer-facing applications. You will help the installer have a pleasant experience when our hardware is installed. You give the user more insighs with the data we receive from the hardware, such as detected losses. Ultimately, you ensure happy users. You are involved in every aspect of the realisation (full-stack). You will collaborate on specifications, architecture, development, etc.

An important part you will work on is our Device Management solution. This will require extensive architectural changes in the near future. Another Ruby on Rails team is now managing it. You will help think about the architecture and work with the other Ruby developers to eventually manage the application on your own team.

Your team
Your new team (Software Services) has recently split off to specifically take care of the connected devices cloud software and currently consists of developers with mainly backend affinity in Java and Kotlin. In addition to you as an extension, a second Ruby on Rails Developer will join the team. There is another Ruby on Rails team within Nedap Retail we work closely with. As long as the team lacks the Ruby expertise, development will be done in collaboration with them.

Required experience and skills
You as (Senior) Ruby on Rails Developer will be the driving force in this team in the field of Ruby on Rails. This means that you know how to find your way independently, but also seek cooperation with your colleagues inside and outside the team. You show leadership in overseeing, expanding and maintaining the application landscape. It is important that you take the initiative and proactively come up with ideas. With a critically constructive view, you consider quality important and set the bar high, but also know when to be pragmatic.

Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following:
Minimum 7 years' work experience as a Software Developer, of which at least 2-3 years with Ruby on Rails;
Experience with and MySQL;
Affinity with UX is a nice plus;
Good command of the English language is required and preferably also command of the Dutch language.
You are available for hours. Hybrid (remote) working is customary within Nedap and together with your team you will arrange your own working hours for a good work-life balance. You are preferably present at our campus in Groenlo twice a week.
