The Brownstone School is seeking an assistant teacher for the school year. The Brownstone School supports an educational philosophy which holds that children are continually striving to attain emotional, social, intellectual and physical maturity. The teaching staff are trained to provide appropriate experiences and activities in a suitable environment to help children achieve these goals. We also believe that children become successful lifelong learners when they are helped to develop a strong sense of identity and self-worth. In the process of helping children develop, grow and achieve, teachers take into account broad developmental differences due to age, individual rates of development, personality, learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and the ways in which each family functions. It is recognized that the family is the main source of security and identity for the child.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides for the safety and well-being of all students at all times
  • Works collaboratively and enthusiastically with a team of colleagues, administrators, and parents
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of curriculum using the emergent curriculum philosophy
  • Works within the framework of the program to carry out its functions, policies, and procedures
  • Observes, monitors, and documents student behavior and growth; assists Head Teacher in compiling bi-annual progress reports
  • Develops and maintains sound parent relationships; is responsive to parent's questions, suggestions, and concerns; respects the confidential nature of all information regarding children and parents.
  • Participates in self-evaluation process; assumes responsibility for discussing his/her professional performance objectively in regularly scheduled supervisory conferences with the Director; identifies areas for professional growth and improvement
  • Is aware of and familiar with emergency protocols and all DOHMH guidelines
  • Responsible for keeping classroom equipment and materials tidy
  • Attends all scheduled faculty meetings and other school events as outlined in their Letter of Engagement; completes professional obligations before leaving school premises in the evening or prior to vacation periods Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree required
    • Must fill out a background check application as mandated by the DOH, including fingerprints through Identgo.
    • Educational philosophy aligns with the mission of The Brownstone School
