Position Overview:
Maui Prep is seeking a passionate and experienced Kumu (Hawaiian
Teacher) to join our dedicated faculty. The ideal candidate will have a deep
understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture, language, and history,
and will be committed to integrating these aspects into their teaching
practice. The Kumu will be responsible for developing and delivering
engaging and culturally relevant curriculum to students in grades K-12.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement curriculum that integrates Hawaiian language,
culture, and history into daily lessons across grade levels.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that celebrates the
diversity of our students and community.

  • Foster a love of learning and appreciation for Hawaiian culture among
students through engaging and interactive lessons.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate Hawaiian culture and values into
school-wide initiatives and events.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching
skills and stay current with best practices in Hawaiian education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required; Master's degree
preferred or Experienced Hawaiian Practitioner

  • Certification in Hawaiian language, culture, or education preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience, preferably in a Hawaiian cultural
setting.

  • Strong knowledge of Hawaiian language, culture, and history.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.
