Detailed Job Description

The School of Mathematics & Statistics (SMS) at Rochester Institute of Technology has an open position for a non-tenure track, full-time Lecturer in statistics. Lecturers are responsible for teaching and expected to have a strong commitment to and proven ability to teach foundational and advanced statistics courses. The professional duties will include instruction, office hours, and attending college and school faculty meetings. We seek candidates who have knowledge of and experience with active learning pedagogies, which play an important role in our coursework.

The Applied Statistics programs in SMS encompass traditional areas of statistics and interdisciplinary fields such as Data Mining, Data Science, and Analytics. Degree programs include a BS in Applied Statistics and Data Analytics, an MS in Applied Statistics, a Ph.D. in Mathematical Modeling, and two advanced certificates. The MS program is a professional master's degree intended to create informed users of statistical methods.

Department/College Description

THE COLLEGE/ SCHOOL:
The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is one of six academic units in RIT's College of Science, which also houses the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, the Integrated Sciences Academy, the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, the School of Physics and Astronomy, and the Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences. The SMS promotes research in mathematical and statistical sciences and is the home of 79 faculty members, four administrative staff members, three undergraduate programs (Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, and Applied Statistics and Data Analytics), two MS programs (Applied and Computational Mathematics, and Applied Statistics) and a Ph.D. program in Mathematical Modeling. The SMS offers the required mathematics and statistics courses for students from all RIT programs.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Statistics preferred, or MS with several years of demonstrated experience in teaching university-level statistics courses in an English-speaking environment.
Potential for successful college teaching in foundational undergraduate statistics courses.
Preference will be given to candidates who can teach statistics courses beyond the introductory level.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
