About the role:

Under limited supervisory direction, assists manufacturing engineering, operations, R&D and Process Development by transforming designs into fixtures and functional prototypes and refining designs to achieve maximum quality. Collaborates closely with designers, engineers, and technicians to provide expertise in the design and manufacture of precision, hard-form, three-dimensional representations of design ideas and concepts. Interprets blueprints for fabrication or prototypes.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools (including CNC work centers, milling machines, EDM equipment and grinders) in order to machine various materials to fabricate fixtures, tooling, die components, and functional prototype parts on a custom basis.
  • Provide troubleshooting, review, and resolution of development, process, and production issues.
  • Analyze specifications and determine equipment and tooling required. Apply knowledge of various material properties, machining and shop mathematics.
  • Communicate design-related concerns and issues to engineers and suggest alternate production methods, materials, or cuts that may be more feasible, but still fulfill the functionality requirements.
  • Read blueprints, layout, sketches or non-dimensioned CAD models to visualize machining required and plan sequence of operations.
  • Select method of holding work piece, positions and secure materials for machining, select feed rate for each operation, and observe operation and regulate tool position and action.
  • Verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications.
  • Determine the most efficient method (cost and time) of completing the job without affecting quality.
  • Build Quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.
  • Keep accurate records, keep clean work area, log and close tasks as needed.

Required qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in tool build environment
  • Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education/work experience.
  • Proficiency with Mastercam software

Preferred Qualification:

  • Proficiency with Solidworks
  • Basic skills in MS Office and Outlook
