The complexity of this role can be challenging. As the Senior Manager IO Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a geographically diverse team of Engineers supporting backup and recovery for Optum.

To be successful in this position, you need a solid understanding of Data Protection technology and requirements and be able to manage and lead a highly technical team, to execute projects such as technology implementations, transitions, streamlining, and upgrades. You will work closely with business and technology stakeholders to help drive maturity, innovation, and simplification.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Data Protection infrastructure and operations engineers supporting backup and recovery
  • Provide engineering support and direction in Data Protection related projects
  • Ensure best practice solutioning across Data Protection platforms
  • Responsible for backup performance and product lifecycle
  • Ensure standards, guidelines, and policies for the use and integration of technology are followed
  • Collaborate with other technical and non-technical teams
  • On-call escalations
  • Participate in on-call rotations including weekends

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of infrastructure operational management experience
  • 3+ years of experience with Data Protection technologies to include related Hardware and Software
  • Experience with planning, coordinating and executing major initiatives
  • Understanding of core storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, Object


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 2+ years of experience managing Data Protection Operations Engineers
  • Experience in a broad range of data backup and recovery tools
  • Experience and understanding of VMware, Hyper-V, and similar virtualization technologies
  • Extensive Background with Veritas NetBackup or related tools
  • Experience with Cloud backups, Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS
  • Scripting and/or Python programming experience
  • Proven systematic problem-solving approach with a sense of ownership and drive

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
