St. Andrew's-Sewanee School seeks a dynamic Dean of Students with a commitment to boarding and day school education in a diverse and welcoming Episcopal environment. The Dean of Students provides leadership and guidance for all aspects of the student life experience. This is a 12-month, full time, residential position and reports to the Head of School. The Dean of Students is a member of the Administrative Team. Outstanding candidates will be self-directed, possess exceptional rapport-building skills, have a generally upbeat and enthusiastic disposition, and enjoy working with other adults to encourage challenge, balance, and joy in the lives of adolescents.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dean of Students will oversee all aspects of the non-academic student experience for students in grades 6-12. The Dean of Students is expected to:

Facilitate a positive and healthy school experience for all students. Develop school rules, expectations, and standards and ensure clear communication and consistent enforcement, overseeing all student discipline and accountability protocols. Manage the residential student life program (approximately 60 boarding students in five residential houses and 20+ residential faculty living on campus) while modeling an engaged and involved residential presence and supervising the Residential Life Coordinator.

Work with colleagues to establish, maintain, and communicate safety and security standards for the school.

Oversee orientation activities, student life and leadership programs, coordinators, and budgets.

Supervise the Health & Wellness program including the Director of the Health Clinic, school nurses, the Director of Wellness Programming, and school mental health. counselors

Proactively communicate with parents regarding student well-being. Serve as a member of the Student Support Team, Residential Life Leadership Team (chair), Compass (SAS Advisory & Grade-Level Program) Leadership Team (chair), Retention Committee, Internal Team (co-chair), and Admin Team.

Coordinate the Middle School and Upper School advisory system and grade-level program, known as Compass and manage the Upper School Grade Level Leads (GLLs). Work closely with the Middle School Coordinator to collaborate regarding student wellbeing and major discipline issues.

Supervise, manage, and coordinate training and scheduling of transportation and bus services, overseeing the Transportation Coordinator.

Observe and provide feedback to classroom teachers as one of the teaching administrators following the school's Professional Growth & Faculty Observation plan. Working with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), coordinate all aspects of the Dining Services (contracted with FLIK), meeting regularly with the Director of Dining Services. Coordinate, supervise, and serve in the Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) rotation.

Serve on the Strategic Leadership Team, together with the Head of School, Associate Head & Academic Dean, and Chief Financial Officer to make strategic, long-term decisions for SAS.

Attend quarterly Board of Trustees' meetings and be prepared to present on a variety of topics.

Teach at least one course/equivalent. Other duties as expected of faculty or as assigned by the Head of School.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

Enthusiasm and commitment to caring for adolescents Commitment to St. Andrew's-Sewanee's mission and vision and comfort with the tenets of the Episcopal Church Experience living in a boarding school community

Minimum of a B.A. or B.S degree and/or advanced degree in a related field

Minimum of five years of demonstrated success as an educator Ability to think strategically and creatively

Ability to communicate and work effectively with members of the community

Ability to motivate and manage students and residential faculty

Strong work ethic, generous spirit, and excellent speaking and writing skills

Candidates must be willing to live on campus.

Applicants with experience teaching upper school history and/or the ability to coach a sport will be given special consideration.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, 12-month position. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Campus housing will be provided.
