The Nursing Assistant at the Fargo VA Health Care System in the Surgical Specialty Department performs care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of physical, mental, behavioral or psychological needs by applying practical nursing knowledge and skills.

This Nursing Assistant will provide daily support and assistance in our Surgery Specialty Outpatient Clinics.

This Nursing Assistant will be responsible for obtaining and documenting information from patient and/or family to identify major concerns, symptoms, or reason for seeking specialty care; preparing the clinic weekly; obtaining reports from outside facilities as needed; coordinating provider schedules in order to optimize clinic utilization; assisting with procedures; and working collaboratively with all staff within the Surgery Specialty service line.


Duties include but not limited to:
Initiates, performs and completes assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
Carries out assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions and direction from RN and/or LPN
Observes, identifies, and responds to the patient's needs for care
Recognizes and considers emotional, cultural, spiritual, socio-economic, and age-related factors when delivering care
Serves as a responsible member of the nursing team.

Interacts in an appropriate manner with patients, family, members, professional and other support personnel involved in the delivery of patient care.

Incorporates acceptable established customer service standards into practice.
Uses computerized patient records system.

Recognizes urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeks assistance of the RN and/or provider, and assists in emergency interventions as directed.

Other duties as assigned including assisting all surgical specialty clinics as needed.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Paid Time Off:
37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:


After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


Child Care Subsidy:


After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.
