Purpose of Job
This position, under the direction of the Director of Informatics, manages the planning and day-to-day operations of the Informatics Team. This position is responsible for the overall adoption and optimization of the Epic application, and for the leadership of informatics technology projects in collaboration with Service Line, Departmental and IT leadership.
Job Functions
- Provides leadership and oversight of the informatics program related to hospital and clinic patient care services. Supports the department director through development of programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organization's overall strategic plan and initiatives.
- Manages staff resources by overseeing the recruiting, selecting, hiring, and orienting qualified individuals. Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective, and timely manner. Develops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development. Creates a cohesive informatics program committed to providing clinical and service quality to all customers.
- Reviews and monitors applicable policies and procedures. As assigned, ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agency standards.
- Maintains clinical competencies and/or knowledge in accord with scope and responsibility of the position.
- May participate in organizational and medical staff committees and serve as a professional resource for physicians, clinicians, and leadership.
- Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practices, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.
- Oversight of the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Epic system support needs for operations according to clinical judgment, policies and procedures, and standards.
- Develops and manages project plans for the development of new and/or changes to information system applications (where not provided by IT project management).
- Serves as an educator and resource regarding system functionality within clinical areas.
- Identifies opportunities for, and contributes to the improvement of quality, safety and cost, patient satisfaction, and employee satisfaction.
- Other duties as assigned to achieve goals (rounding with customers, attending customer department meetings, designing solutions, testing solutions, training plans programs, testing competencies, creating downtime procedures, etc.)
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Associates Degree, Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Supervisory experience and/orproject management experience
- Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with customers
- Previous healthcare IT/Informatics related experience
License/Certifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Epic system experience
