Title: Lead Systems Engineer (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

This role focuses on providing essential leadership in systems engineering as NASA continues to enhance systems for exploration missions such as Gateway, lunar surface projects, Mars transit, and Mars surface missions. As the lead systems engineer, you will oversee project teams in creating development artifacts and top-notch systems, implement systems engineering management plans, prioritize technical tasks, and develop operational practices. Your role involves guiding the team in implementing systems engineering principles, contributing experience to organizational capabilities, and collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and technical expertise.

This position requires experienced leadership in NASA, DoD, and industry systems engineering practices, with a strong emphasis on team cohesion and successful project management. Additionally, a background in spaceflight impacts on human physiology and an understanding of human spaceflight engineering are highly valued.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement systems engineering management plans.
  • Lead the development of artifacts to support project milestones.
  • Prioritize and ensure quality of technical work.
  • Create operational practices for systems engineering teams.
  • Guide team members in creating systems engineering artifacts and solutions.
  • Train Systems Engineers in utilizing engineering principles and tools.
  • Plan and estimate systems engineering projects.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
  • 15 years of relevant professional experience with increasing technical and leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience in systems engineering or related technical field.

Desired:

  • Master's degree in engineering plus 13 years of relevant experience.
  • Certification in systems engineering and project management.
  • Expertise in model-based systems engineering.
  • Background in bioastronautics and human spaceflight missions.
  • Knowledge of NASA human systems integration.

Skills/Training:

Required

  • Ability to lead technical teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Understanding of NASA/JSC flight hardware development process.
  • Experience in system engineering processes.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication with stakeholders and team members.
  • Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering.
  • Desire to seek new business opportunities.
  • Professional judgment in setting objectives and priorities.
  • Dependable work habits and dedication to task completion.
  • Ability to translate concepts across disciplines.

Desired

  • Experience with NASA/DoD Work Instructions and MBSE practices.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous involvement in NASA flight hardware development process.
