4th Year Externship

North Houston Hearing Solutions is offering a position for a qualified 4th Year Extern for the academic term. We are a private practice located in Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston, Texas. Our externship will provide experience in the following areas:

• Audiologic assessment
• Immitance assessment
• OAE testing
• Tinnitus assessment & retraining
• Neuro-VNG evaluation and interpretation of the following:
  • Rotary Chair
  • ECoG
  • ABR
  • O Vemps
  • C Vemps
• Hearing aid selection, fitting, service
• Ability to interact with patients and make recommendations for appropriate hearing healthcare.
• Limited exposure to Cochlear Implants
• Cerumen removal

Our practice is a very busy private practice where our patients receive "white-glove" treatment. We offer the very best in patient care.

Requirements for the Extern position include:

• Appropriate graduate work completed to be eligible for 4th Year Externship.
• Working knowledge of and ability to perform audiometry, immitance & OAEs.
• Ability to think quickly and adjust quickly and appropriately as needed.
• Ability to communicate with patients and supervisor.
• Willingness and openness to learn new ideas.
• Eligible for licensure in Texas as an Audiology Intern.

Our hearing aid manufacturers and other vendors hold events on a quarterly basis that an extern would be welcome to attend. Start Date: June, 2025
Expected hours/days a week: 8am - 5pm M-F
Travel to satellite centers required? Yes
On occasion, the extern may travel to one of our other two locations for a particular valuable learning experience. Local students preferred: No

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: The Extern should possess the following skills:
-Ability to perform basic audiometric testing
-Ability to perform immitance testing and acoustic reflex testing
-Ability to perform OAE testing
-Ability to assimilate basic results from this testing
-Working knowledge of hearing aids
-Working knowledge of vestibular testing
-Working knowledge of other advanced EP testing
-Ability to communicate with patients and their supervisor Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: An extern will perfect their skills during the 12 month on the following:
-Perform audiometric, immitance and OAE testing & make appropriate recommendations.
-Select, recommend, fit & service advanced hearing aids from the major manufacturers successfully.
-Perform, interpret & make appropriate recommendations for neuro-vestibular assessment including rotary chair.
-Ability to collaborate with other health professionals.
After the successful completion of the 12 month externship, our extern will be fully employable in any area of the field. Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern:
