Job Summary

Performs duties of a University Police Officer. Oversight of daily agency operations and monitorization of delegated duties and responsibilities department wide. Responsible for the University Emergency Preparedness policies, training, compliance and response practices both departmental and campus wide Serves as Assistant Accreditation Manager and Recruitment/Selection Coordinator. Responsible for ensuring criminal and administrative complaints are investigated to include coordination with allied agencies. Will assume command of the police department in the Chief's absence, unless otherwise delegated by the Chief.

Authority and Accountability

Direct report to the Chief or Police. Three Lieutenants report directly to Captain for day-to-day operations.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field and seven years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, to include police supervisor and commander.
Possess a valid Maryland non-commercial class C or equivalent driver's license.
Possess a current police officer certification by the MPTC.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
Must have a thorough understanding of police operations, community policing, criminal investigation, and crime prevention; interact well with diverse university community, must demonstrate strong leadership and develop positive and productive work relationships.
Must be well versed in the accreditation process.
Must be proficient in emergency preparedness, the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System
Preferred Qualifications

University policing knowledge or experience
Willingness to be available for rotational on call status
Documented police command and or leadership training
This is a full-time exempt State position with a full benefits package. The salary will be commensurate with experience & qualifications.
