Trace the relations between the different processes of production, exchange, marketing and consumption of coffee. Develop your discussion around a particular thematic focus that we have discussed elsewhere in the course.
You could, for example, look at coffee in relation to gender, to class, to processes of fetishism, or of status distinction.
You could look at notions of "public" and "private" through coffee, or ideas of the "global" and the "local." Or, you might look at the different notions of "time" implicit in coffee processes drawing ideas about time from the Ingold reading.
Or, choose another theme that you can extract from the course readings.The point is to focus on one specific theme, but also to trace this theme through the different processes that transform coffee from bean to cup.
You may, of course, touch on more than one theme in the course of your discussion, as long as your discussion has an overall focus and structure.
You need to cite and quote the readings provided on coffee from this section of the class. Please DO NOT do additional research or cite any sources on coffee beyond those provided here. Including additional sources will lower your grade for this assignment.Level:
