Overview

This position is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the timely and accurate accounting, financial reporting, analysis and compliance for AmTrust Financial Services, with a focus on Statutory entities. Responsibilities include driving efficiency and consistency in the quarterly close process, including accounting policy, financial reporting / statutory filings, improvement of internal controls and analysis/understanding of financial results. This position reports directly to the SVP - Global Controller & Chief Accounting Officer and will have direct oversight of a team of approximately 20+ individuals, as well as working closely with the various entity controllers and key senior financial leaders across the organization. Responsibilities
  • Oversee / coordinate the timely and accurate accounting, financial reporting, analysis and compliance for U.S. insurance entities (Statutory focus, GAAP, IFRS, as applicable).
  • Primary reviewer on all quarterly and annual statutory statements for all statutory entities.
  • Ensure consistent accounting treatment and accounting policy across entities.
  • Lead efforts to ensure efficiency and consistency in the quarterly/annual close process.
  • Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls, including design and execution of the controls over financial reporting and the related close processes.
  • Analyze and understand financial results to ensure reasonableness and accuracy of financial statements including presentation of results and providing input to internal management reporting.
  • Provide accounting support for complex transactions, acquisitions/ divestitures, new product/business onboarding and ad hoc tasks for management reviews and reporting to enhance decision making.
  • Drive consistency/best practices and seek out potential areas of improvement in accounting / financial reporting /data analytics / consolidation processes (for example, workflow, automated processes, enhanced reporting, etc.).
  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders through frequent contact, proactive communication and professional interaction.
  • Develop and mentor direct reports to ensure knowledge sharing and professional growth. Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department. This individual recommends training requirements, has the duty to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives, and may recommend that personnel be hired or removed from the Department.
  • Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • 15 years or more of technical insurance/reinsurance accounting and financial reporting experience (Big 4 experience preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required.
  • Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of Statutory, GAAP and IFRS accounting (heavy Statutory focus)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and thoughtfully solve problems in a decisive manner.
  • 10 or more years of hands-on management and leadership experience inclusive of coaching, staff development, expectation setting, accountability as a role model and setting a high bar for performance, engagement and commitment; ability to multi-task and lead.
  • Strong collaborator/influencer: Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to influence and drive change.
  • Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within insurance/reinsurance accounting and financial reporting processes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement consistent and effective processes around insurance/ reinsurance accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong learning agility and ability to use new information effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement Focused: Willing to ask questions and explore new ideas. Eager to learn and focused on continuously improving technical skills/accounting capabilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant trends and information within the industry.

The salary range for this role is $250K - $275K per year. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, New Jersey. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
