Job Description

About the Position:

Dunn Lumber, a leading retailer of lumber and building materials, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Buyer to join our procurement team. The Buyer will play a crucial role in selecting and sourcing building products, ensuring they meet the needs of our diverse customer base in the greater Seattle area, including contractors and homeowners. This position requires strong negotiation skills, an analytical mindset, and the ability to maintain effective relationships with suppliers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Selection and Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and select building materials and products that meet quality standards and are relevant to our market.
Product Information Resource: Act as a resource for company product information, answering sales and product questions from customers and employees.
Vendor Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market research to stay informed about industry trends, new products, and competitive pricing.
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and work with the inventory team to ensure optimal stock levels.
Order Processing: Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery of materials.
Quality Assurance: Collaborate with store leadership and suppliers to ensure that all products meet Dunn Lumber's standards.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on procurement activities, including cost analysis, supplier performance, and market trends.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.

Previous Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in procurement and/or sales role, preferably within the building materials industry.

Skills:

Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in ERP software (Epicor) and Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Excel.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
General understanding of the geographic market, competitors, customers, and market drivers that make the area unique.
Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar certification is a plus.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to some lifting and moving of products and objects. Exerting in excess of 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 30 pounds of force frequently, and /or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work Environment:
Office-based with occasional travel to Dunn Lumber stores, supplier sites, and vendor locations.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm
Additional Information
This is an entry level position with a paid two-week training period and continued learning while employed. The two-week training is completed on site with your supervisor or at a Training Yard with the Training Department. The training for this position will focus on product knowledge, Point of Sale software, and yard operations.

This position is in a yard/retail environment. This position is largely active and requires employees to be on their feet for most of the shift. The noise level is moderate to loud.
