Introduction

The Maryland Insurance\r
Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that is committed to\r

operation of insurance carriers and producers (agents).� The MIA is passionate about increasing the\r
public's understanding of the vital role insurance plays in the daily lives of\r
Maryland residents and businesses.\r

The MIA Insurance\r
Commissioner plays a key role in ensuring that all insurance laws are\r
faithfully executed.� The Commissioner\r
oversees the various responsibilities of the agency to protect Maryland\r
consumers by regulating the state's insurance companies and producers,\r
investigating complaints about insurance coverage, licensing insurance\r
companies and producers operating in Maryland, and investigating acts of\r
insurance fraud, among other duties.\r
�\r
The agency has a total\r
annual operating budget of approximately $42 million and 259 employees.\r
�\r
Appointed by the Governor with advice and consent of the\r
Maryland Senate, the Commissioner serves a four-year term.� This executive service position serves at the\r
pleasure of the Governor.\r

POSITION DUTIES

A successful candidate will have:�\r
\r
\r
� Knowledge of Maryland and federal insurance laws and regulations.\r
� Experience building relationships with public and private insurance industry entities.\r
� Experience with a state insurance department, public accounting firm or similar audit entity, or another entity in a financial or audit-related area.\r
� Ability to convey complex insurance concepts to leadership in various functional areas.\r
� Strong ethical values and a commitment to compliance and integrity;\r
� Exceptional oral and written communications skills; and\r
� Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from\r
an accredited college or university (Juris Doctor degree preferred).\r
�\r
Experience: At least ten (10) years\r
of insurance-related or industry regulatory experience, to include a minimum of\r
seven (7) years of direct management or supervisory experience.\r
