In this role, you will be instrumental in constructing, rigging, and maintaining scenery and props, while also ensuring production standards and mentoring students. This role reports to the Theater Manager/Technical Director and may require after-school, evening, and weekend hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Constructing, mounting, and rigging scenery and props.
  • Maintaining scene shop equipment and supplies.
  • Overseeing theatre shop and production standards in alignment with the Theatre program's standards.
  • Providing instruction to students on scenery and prop construction techniques.
  • Participating in in-house assemblies, parent meetings, concerts, and serving as a technical director for selected shows, in collaboration with other staff designers/technical directors and the Director of Fine Arts.
  • Managing facility and event calendars, including set-ups and tear-downs.
  • Placing orders for building materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of rigging, sound, stage lighting, and/or scenic painting is advantageous.
  • Design opportunities may be available depending on area of expertise. Qualifications:
    • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or related field; master's degree preferred.
    • Experience in set construction, theatre design, facility management, and long-range calendar management is advantageous.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and effectively interface with all St. John's constituencies.
    • Commitment to developing cultural competency in a diverse community.
    • Preferred experience in converting scenic design drawings into build drawings.
