Position Summary:
The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive software test plans to ensure the delivery of high-quality software applications and systems. This role involves collaborating closely with project teams within the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS), applying rigorous testing practices, and contributing to the establishment of quality assurance standards.
Essential Functions:
1. Quality Assurance Standards: Develop and implement quality assurance standards and measures for applications and products throughout their development lifecycles.
2. Testing Activities: Ensure testing activities align with business requirements, system goals, and end-user needs. Identify and resolve potential issues through comprehensive testing.
3. Technical Analysis: Analyze technical documentation to understand application functionality and architecture, ensuring thorough test coverage.
4. Test Planning: Create detailed test plans by translating business and functional requirements into effective test cases and scenarios.
5. Execution of Test Cases: Execute test cases to validate internally developed products, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions, and systems against approved requirements.
6. Testing and Installation: Perform or assist in testing and installing applications and products in various environments as required.
7. Collaboration: Collaborate with software and systems personnel to conduct system, regression, and load testing, ensuring robust application performance.
8. Automation: Evaluate and recommend test cases for automation. Develop and utilize automated testing frameworks and tools for integration and user interface tests.
9. Defect Management: Analyze formal test results to identify defects, bugs, errors, deployment issues, and interoperability flaws. Report defects and provide inputs for release decisions.
10. Continuous Improvement: Recommend enhancements to applications and systems based on testing results. Develop testing strategies to optimize existing systems.
11. Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise in evaluating and resolving complex testing issues and features, ensuring high-quality software delivery.
12. Peer Review and Mentoring: Conduct peer reviews of testing efforts and provide constructive feedback and mentoring to QA analysts.
13. Communication: Communicate test progress, results, and relevant information to project stakeholders and management effectively.
14. Adherence to QA Standards: Collaborate with software engineers to enforce QA standards, including unit testing practices that uphold quality coding standards.
15. Change Control: Assist in developing change control processes and guidelines for new and existing technologies to maintain application integrity.
16. Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the ITS IT Service Management (ITSM) system by documenting and sharing knowledge to enhance customer service across the department.
17. Professional Development: Attend meetings, training sessions, and actively pursue professional development opportunities to stay updated with industry trends and advancements.
18. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals and objectives of the Division of Information Technology Services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in software testing or quality assurance, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of QA concepts, practices, and technologies.
- Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and comprehensive test plans and test cases.
- Experience with automated testing tools and frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
