Our client is actively seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide direct patient care within a busy Emergency Department.



Status: W2, _
Full or Part time_



Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm or 10am - 10pm



About the facility:

  • Level II ED, though about half the patients are ESI level 4 and 5
  • 30,000 annual ED visits
  • 16 beds, can surge to 24 if needed
  • Very few community ambulance patients.
  • Facility has an attached CLC (nursing home) and Spinal cord injury sickest patients come from there.
  • The hospital has 8 ICU & SDU and 21 med surg beds. We also have 35 acute mental health beds when they develop issues after hours those patients come to the ED.
  • Academic team in house 24/7 who cover codes.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system name – VISTA, a "homegrown" EMR that was developed and utilized for Veteran patients nationwide.
  • Admit rate – about 5%
  • Average length of stay – 2 to 3 hours
- % patients reported without being seen – about 1%

Responsibilities:

  • Wound closure and suturing, suture removal
  • Incision and drainage of abscess
  • Aspiration of cavities – thoracentesis, paracentesis
  • Insertion of peripheral and central venous lines
  • Insertion of chest tubes, Cooke catheters, Nasogastric tubes, nasogastric feeding tubes, Foley
  • Draw venous blood and perform arterial punctures for blood gas
  • Change gastrostomy tube and suprapubic tubes
  • Familiar with the working of vascular access apparatus such as those used for chemotherapy and be able to flush them when clogged.
  • Emergency wound care, e.g. unna boot placement, wound vac. care, wound assessment
  • Emergency airway management including cricothyroidotomy, endotracheal intubation (including at least two live demonstrated endotracheal intubations during the past 12 months).
  • Management of epistaxis with anterior and posterior nasal packing
  • Hemodynamic stabilization of patients prior to transfer or to admission.
  • Joint needle aspirations
