Vestas' renewable development arm for North America, Steelhead Americas, has a growing development pipeline with over 4 GW of wind projects and is looking for a Development Specialist-Financial Modeling to join our team.

As Steelhead matures its pipeline, the Financial Solutions and Analytics team is seeking to expand their in-house financial modeling capabilities and bandwidth. The Steelhead development pipeline consists of wholly owned development assets and co-development partnerships, ranging from early-stage projects to build-transfer obligations. The Steelhead Development Specialist-Financial Modeling will have an integral part by providing internal quantitative and qualitative analysis to support project development related business decisions and growth strategy.

To be successful in this position, a candidate should be highly numerate and able to demonstrate an unparalleled vision for both the energy transition and financial modeling based on their prior professional experience and educational training.

Development Specialist – Financial Modeling

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and implement complex financial models from scratch, and able to draw logical conclusions from their output.
  • Act as a conduit between the development team and subject matter experts ensuring the financial model reflects the most updated development status of a project.
  • Help key stakeholders in developing a deep understanding of the economic viability of renewable energy generation projects, including building scenario calculations and/or adjusting cash flow models, as required.
  • Together with development and commercial teams, execute qualitative and quantitative analysis of development projects, including risk analysis and preparation of Investment Committees materials for decision processes.
  • Assist with the due diligence process of renewable energy projects as part of transaction deal teams for both acquisitions and divestments.
  • Support team lead in interactions with broader financial community, including but not limited to, investments banks, tax equity advisors, commercial banks, and other relevant active financiers in the market.
  • Support team lead in arranging complex financial solutions for select development projects, including (grants, mezzanine facilities, construction, and term debt, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Prior professional experience of 3-5 years carrying out similar tasks, partially or in full, required. Experience working in energy industry and a basic understanding of power markets preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics / finance / engineering. Relevant coursework in finance and modeling required (professional training such as Graduate Training Program will be sufficient to validate this requirement).
  • Highly literate in relevant corporate finance and investment concepts (valuation, accounting, etc.), coupled with a sound understanding of the corresponding legal aspects relevant to financing and project related transactions.
  • Comfort with math, research, and making predictions amid uncertain conditions.
  • System skills - Microsoft Office (Excel super-user), CRM database, GIS, etc.
  • Advanced communication and organizational skills, oral and written, and interpersonal interaction.
  • Ability to assimilate technical information and translate that into appropriate business decisions.
