JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Lecturer, beginning Spring 2024, for the position of Assistant Director of Digital Humanities and Undergraduate Learning. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position to be renewed on a year-to-year basis, contingent on funding.

As a key part of the Center's intellectual life, the Assistant Director of Digital Humanities and Undergraduate Learning will develop and oversee a suite of curricular programs, workshops, and events that expand opportunities for and engagement with the digital humanities for faculty and students. The Assistant Director will work to foster collaborations with industry and thought-leaders in order to connect the work of humanities research and increase impact beyond UF. The Assistant Director will also coordinate opportunities for undergraduates by way of the Alexander Grass Humanities Undergraduate Research Fund, including building infrastructure to support humanistic undergraduate research and administering programming in CHPS and beyond.

Duties will include:

--Designing, coordinating, and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses and workshops in the digital humanities; coordinating with other relevant units (such as the UF Smathers Libraries) in order to develop course offerings; possibly working toward developing an undergraduate minor and graduate certificate in the digital humanities;

--Developing and administering programming surrounding undergraduate research in the humanities; collaborating with faculty and units across campus to source humanities-focused research projects for undergraduates, particularly but not solely in the area of the digital humanities;

--Seeking programmatic grants (e.g., NEH Digital Humanities Advancement Grants) in collaboration with other Center faculty and staff and other units across campus;

--Staying abreast of national and international trends in the digital humanities in order to ensure relevant and innovative curricula and programming;

--Supporting and facilitating wide-ranging technological engagement across the humanities and other units in the university (for example in the arts, social sciences, and the libraries);

--Developing resources, procedures, and productive workflows at UF that support digital humanities projects and multidisciplinary collaboration around those projects; offering workshops to introduce faculty to the tools and methods of the digital humanities; consulting with faculty and students to help envision, scope, plan, and execute digital projects.

Founded in 2005, the University of Florida Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere supports a diverse field of scholars across Florida's oldest, land-grant, and most comprehensive research university with an array of funding opportunities, public programs, working groups, and grant-writing services. The Center has three interrelated purposes: (1) to facilitate and promote the research programs of humanities scholars at UF, (2) to provide an intellectual and physical space for critical and collaborative discussions of the humanities beyond individual disciplines, and (3) to provide a place for outreach to our community. For further information about the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere, see:

UF is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000 students and was ranked 6th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2023 rankings), and 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). The beautiful climate and extensive nearby parks and recreational areas afford year-round outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and nature photography. UF's large college sports programs, museums, and performing arts center support a range of activities and cultural events for residents to enjoy. Alachua County schools are highly rated and offer a variety of programs including magnet schools and an international baccalaureate program.
