Memphis VA Healthcare System, Memphis, Tennessee is currently recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Urology Surgical Care Clinic.
DutiesThis is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024. The initial cut off date for referral of eligible applications will be September 30, 2024, with the initial cut off will be December 27, 2023. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as needed basis until positions are filled.
The Urology Clinic LPN is responsible for the overall technical management of the Urology Clinic.
Technical skills vary from simple cleaning of instruments to a high level of competency in the function and operation of sophisticated computerized video endoscopic equipment and scopes.
The LPN must be able to adapt quickly to unusual and often emergent situations or special requests of the physicians for the safe completion of the procedures.
The LPN performs, reports, and records assigned nursing care, including, but not limited to: a. Oxygen therapy b. Medication administration to include PO, IM, SQ. c. Vital sign data collection including height and weight. d. Prepare the patient for the PCP appointment, surgical and minor procedure. e. Clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated. f. Check expiration dates of meds and supplies. g. Delegated procedures and treatments. h. Documentation. i.Assists with procedures in the Urology Clinic, Urology Clinic Procedural Rooms, and in the Urology OR suite, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, instrumentation, and supplies; positioning patient; ensuring comfort and privacy.
Monitors patient prior, during and after procedures. j. Lab specimen collection (including phlebotomy) k. Transport and handling of chemotherapy agents l. Patient education m. Understands all aspects of sterility vs aseptic techniques and responds appropriately n. Knowledgeable of RME requirement for storage, usage, transport, and post procedural decontaminationPerforms and/or assists in Urology procedures. Prepares the procedural rooms for the performance of Urological procedures.
This involves setting up the instruments, testing the equipment for proper operation, assuring the immediate availability of emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitative equipment, instrumentation, specimen supplies, electrocautery, and laser supplies.
