Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has a long-standing history of providing outstanding care for our patients, conducting leading-edge, collaborative research, and educating the next generation of ophthalmologists and vision science researchers.

The department is seeking faculty for a position in the subspecialty of glaucoma. Appointment rank may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level and to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest and commensurate with experience. The position entails clinical and surgical activity at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics main campus and Iowa River Landing Ambulatory site.

The department currently supports 15 residents and 5 first year interns in the Ophthalmology training program, as well as fellowships in Pediatric Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Neuro Ophthalmology, Cornea, Oculoplastics and Retina. The department has multiple providers conducting clinical research strongly supported by a trials team and institutional resources. In addition to the trials team, the University of Iowa Institute for Vision Research is home to a world class team of scientist aimed at curing blindness.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



Education Requirement:
  • Medical doctorate (MD) or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.


Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a fully accredited ophthalmology residency.
  • Subspecialty training in glaucoma.
  • Demonstrated medical and surgical skills in glaucoma.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.


Certifications:
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa.
  • Must be board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology within 3 years of hire.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in clinical or basic science research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to resident and fellow training.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive workforce and academic environment.
