Position Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals to join our team as Firefighter (Recruit). The Tolleson Fire Department operates a single station, housing a Ladder, Ladder Tender, Engine, Brush Truck, and Battalion, and consists of 33 members. The department works on a 48/96 shift schedule and provides opportunities for wildland deployment and training. Selected candidates will be required to complete a Regional Fire Academy, actively participating in all activities to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and functions to become sworn firefighters. During the academy, candidates will work a 40-hour week under the close supervision of a Fire Captain assigned as the Fire Training Officer, who will review and evaluate their progress. Upon successful completion of the academy, Firefighter-Recruits will be promoted to Probationary Firefighter and begin a 1-year probationary period with the City of Tolleson Fire Department. Throughout the probationary period, new firefighters will receive close supervision from a Fire Captain who will review and evaluate their work until the period ends.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED must be at least 18 years of age, current CPAT within 6 months of the written test, Valid Arizona Driver's license with no significant citations within the past 39 months before the start date, a valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic with the State of Arizona. Candidates that do not possess a certificate as an EMT or certification as a Paramedic in Arizona must be in the national registry for reciprocity. Candidates not in the national registry must retake certifications to be registered in Arizona by the hire date. Candidates must complete an application and National Testing Network examination.

Supplemental information required to be considered must be provided by email to

1) Copy of a three (3) year driving history report from MVD

2) Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification

3) Proof of CPAT within the last six (6) months

4) an Arizona driver's license. Candidates that do not possess a valid Arizona driver's license must obtain one within one (1) month of the hire date.

Testing Information

This hiring process includes the following steps:

1) Complete a City of Tolleson application

2) Complete online testing through the National Testing Network

3) Participate in an interview

4) Undergo a recruit practical assessment

5) Go through the selection process

Qualified candidates will be notified in advance regarding the written test process. The projected academy start date is January 2025.

Job Information

Closing Date: July 26, 2024 Hiring Salary: $24.85 Hourly

($51,683.11 annually in academy - upon graduation $57,457.24 annually)
