The Department of Biology in the Eberly College of Science ) at The Pennsylvania State University seeks applicants for an Assistant/Associate Level Tenure Track faculty position in the broad field of Ecology. Candidates with a focus on climate change that conduct field work, experimentation, and/or modeling on any given organism or system are especially encouraged to apply. Our department has key strengths in Evolution, Plant Biology, Neuroscience, Coral Biology, Symbiosis/Microbiomes, and Infectious Disease Dynamics. Ecology at Penn State is highly interdisciplinary and we therefore seek candidates with an enthusiasm for collaborations across other fields housed in diverse departments/colleges/institutes. The broader university has strengths in Climate Science and Sustainability, including a number of recent related hires in the College of Agriculture, Health and Human Development, Liberal Arts, and Earth and Mineral Sciences. These initiatives have been driven by the Institute for the Environment (IEE), the Ecology Institute, and the Penn State Climate Consortium ).
The Penn State Climate Consortium, is committed to identifying, creating, and implementing research-based solutions to climate change across the University. Examples of convergent research thematic priorities of the Consortium include but are not limited to Change and Risk, Nature Based Strategies, Indigenous and Local Knowledge Systems, or more. The successful candidate will assume a key role in interdisciplinary research collaborations, and is co-funded through Penn State University's Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE), The successful candidate should be a collaborative leader who will promote and enhance excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary research.
The successful candidate's research may include the use of field based, wet-lab, computational and/or theoretical approaches. The successful applicant is expected to develop and/or maintain an independent, externally funded and internationally recognized research program, leading to advances in their field; to provide excellent instruction to undergraduate and graduate students in the life sciences; and to contribute active service to the department, college, university, professional community, and the public. Applicants at the Assistant Professor level should have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience; applicants at the Associate Professor level should also have a demonstrated record of research and mentoring within their field. The successful applicant will integrate into Penn State's broad-based life science research community and contribute to the Department of Biology's teaching mission.
