Job Summary:

Provides direct and indirect patient care. This includes, but not limited to phlebotomy, EKG, CPR, wound preparation, applying splints, obtaining specimens as well as conduct fitting and reinforcing patient education for durable medical equipment. Provides care to patients under the direction of the Provider and /or RN which may include assisting patients with personal comfort. Completes unit support work such as audits, room/equipment cleaning, inventory control, and safety measures/task. Greets and registers patients for care following standard work and procedures. Participates in quality improvement activities.

Key Position Details:

Provide clinical support in a fast-paced orthopedics trauma and total joint replacement clinics. May provide support in other orthopedics areas such as hand, foot/ankle, and primary care sports medicine. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4:30. Candidates will work in partnership with Orthopedic Surgeons, Physician Assistants, Athletic Trainers, and Medical Assistants. Experience with casting, splinting, and DME application and distribution is preferred.

This position will be supporting our north metro clinics. Possible locations include Coon Rapids, Brooklyn Park, Plymouth, and Fridley. Location preference and availability discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Provider and the RN, provides patient care within scope of position.
    • Includes, but not limited to equipment set up and maintenance, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, wound preparation, CPR, visual acuity exam, applying splints, obtaining specimens, application of durable medical equipment, patient transport.
    • Plans and organizes for procedures.
    • Assists in rooming of patients including vital sign collection.
    • Performs wound dressings, oxygen application, irrigations, and assists with pelvic exams.
    • Documentation in Electronic Medical record per policy guidelines
    • Prepares equipment for interpreter use
    • Greets patients, completes identification verification, height, weight and vision screening, and informs patients of wait time.
    • Administers questionnaires and documents in electronic medical record, enters or edits outside results and prepares patient forms for provider's signatures.
    • Escorts patients to other departments
  • Contributes to an environment that is safe for patients, visitors and employees.
    • Participates in process improvement activities.
    • Ensures use and maintenance of equipment following policies, procedures and manufacturer directions or standards.
    • Reports hazards and/or potential work hazards.
    • Participates in room and equipment cleaning and room turn over.
    • Performs instrument sterilization.
    • Ensures stock and rotation of supplies.
  • May support administrative and training duties.
    • Answers, gathers data and directs phone calls.
    • Completes patient registration and scheduling.
    • May serve as a preceptor, fit tester, or sterilization lead
    • Completes other duties as assigned based on experience and or training
    • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School or GED required
  • Licensed Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) experience required
  • 2 to 5 years Emergency Department Technician experience
  • 2 to 5 years clinical experience in acute health care setting required
  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required American Heart Association or Allina
