Summary

The incumbent serves as MRI Lead Technologist, oversees, plans, and develops activities of the MRI Service to assure optimum patient care, quality control and economically efficient performance of all activities. The incumbent will lead a group of GS-10 employees that are trained to work in one or more difficult and complex modalities performing procedures related to these modalities as well as intermediate Quality Management duties.



Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates technologist's schedule. Makes changes in workflow or assignment of functions to positions to improve workflow, services rendered, promote job satisfaction, increase productivity, and ensure emergent work is done promptly and efficiently.
  • Oversees MRI scheduling and providing coverage when unexpected staff shortages occur during regular and irregular tours-of-duty. Performs all duties of MRI technologist when required.
  • Recommends to higher authority changes that may increase costs or affect employees' status, limit services rendered, or affect work outside the diagnostic section.
  • Develops budget requirements based on experience, anticipated workload, and production capability of work force.
  • Prepares formal requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments, quality increases, or performance awards.
  • Responsible for all safety regulations and practice in Imaging Service.
  • Participates in staff meetings, reviews MRI policies, rules, and regulations, procedures, using expertise in MRI to recommend changes to department leadership. Keeps MRI employees informed of management goals and objectives.
  • Orders supplies
  • Actively seeks out work when assigned tasks are finished. Proactively identifies administrative, clinical, or mechanical problems, and defines solutions thereof.
  • Lead Technologist accepts duties/assignments outside of his/her normal workstation for purposes of receiving additional training, and to provide needed coverage as determined by his/her supervisor based on patient workload shift/changes, leave and availability of personnel.
  • Lead Technologist advises the Radiologist of those examinations which require immediate attention while the patient is undergoing the examination.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the service.
  • In the event that call is approved, the incumbent will participate in call after hours (weekdays, weekends, and holidays).
  • In the event of MRI staffing shortages, the Lead MRI Technologist will perform unscheduled hours/overtime.
Quality Management (QM) Duties:
  • Perform daily inspection of the MRI equipment to ensure proper mechanical functionality.
  • Coordinate scheduling of preventative maintenance for MRI equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Work with the physicist to ensure compliance with MRI safety program.
Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm
