Job Description:

Summary: Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and resolves claims of moderate to severe complexity through effective research, negotiation and interaction with insured's and claimants in accordance with established procedures and state regulations. Responsible for keeping an accurate and up to date record of the file utilizing provided claim systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties assigned as needed.

  • Investigate claims and interpret coverage for multiple lines of coverage in multiple state jurisdictions.
  • Assess and negotiate claims by gathering information to determine the exposure on the claim.
  • Negotiate the settlement of 1st and 3rd party claims with insured, claimants and attorneys.
  • Prepare Large Loss Reports for distribution to senior management and reinsurers.
  • Indemnify claims according to settlement agreement and company procedures.
  • Identify subrogation and deductible recoveries to refer to subrogation unit.
  • Assign and monitor outside adjusters, building consultants, experts and attorneys as needed.
  • Handle all claim files according to company procedure.
  • Contact insured & claimants by telephone within 24 hrs of receipt of claim.
  • Maintain active diary on all claims based on company best practices.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and utilize the Hallmark Vendor databases and Guidelines and update when appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses; and maintain annual required CE credits.
  • Perform general office administrative tasks as required.
  • Complete loss reports, as required.

  • Simplify, analyze, and explain complex coverage and legal issues.
  • Review processes and determine opportunities for improvement.
  • Effectively manage time, meet deadlines, and prioritize responsibilities.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum 5-10 years related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university. Juris Doctorate preference although not essential.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • MS Office, Word, Power Point, and Excel expertise. Familiarity with Image Right a plus.
  • Business travel as required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must hold active state adjuster licensing in assigned territories or gain within 60 days of hire.
  • Maintain state adjuster licensing and complete all required Continuing Education within state-imposed timelines.
  • Insurance designations such as INS, AIC and CPCU encouraged but not required.
