Admission Counselor

JR

Williams College Main Campus

Williams College is pleased to announce an opening for an Admission Counselor. This is a full-time, year-round, benefits-eligible appointment, reporting to a senior member of the admission team, with an expected two-year commitment. The Admission Counselor is part of a 28-member admission and student financial services team and participates in all aspects of the admission process, including: meeting with prospective students; leading public presentations; recruitment travel; reviewing and evaluating applications for admission; serving as a full-voting member of the Admission Committee; and working with current students, staff, faculty, and alumni to organize and facilitate recruitment events both on and off campus. Admission Counselors also have responsibility for individual and team-based project work which is assigned based on the strengths and interests of the individual and the needs of the office. We will utilize the specific strengths, experiences, and interests of our new colleague in order to provide the greatest opportunities for professional growth and advance the ambitious goals of the office.

Regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend responsibilities are required, and a willingness to work extended hours during peak periods is expected. This position is eligible for the Office of Admission's hybrid work plan, which allows for the option of remote work on a predetermined schedule. Please note that remote work may only be conducted in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York or Vermont. We are happy to provide more details and answer questions about the plan during the interview process.

Recruited and chosen through a highly selective admission process, undergraduates come to Williams from around the world and a wide variety of backgrounds. More than half of all students receive financial aid, 16 percent are first-generation college students, 18 percent are Pell Grant recipients, and among domestic students, 44 percent are BIPOC. Students hail from 48 states and 93 countries, and nine percent are international. The college is deeply committed to access and has converted its entire financial aid program into the nation's first "All Grant" program. Loans, work study and summer work expectations have been eliminated from all financial aid awards and replaced by grants, dollar-for-dollar. In other words, all students on financial aid receive 100 percent of their aid in the form of grants that don't need to be repaid.

The Admission Counselor will have the opportunity to work on initiatives related to the recruitment of first-generation college students, low-income students, BIPOC students, international students and nontraditional students. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion, and we encourage candidates to highlight relevant experiences in their cover letter. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community and strongly encourage candidates from underrepresented groups.
