The Asthma and Allergic Diseases Research Group has an immediate opening available for a highly motivated individual interested in development of dendritic cells and initiation of allergy early in life.

The Cook-Mills' lab utilizes basic research and translational approaches to determine mechanisms for:

  1. development of allergic inflammation in the lung in infants
  2. development of food allergy in infants
  3. development of dendritic cells in the fetus and infants
  4. regulation of allergy in infants by maternal pro-inflammatory lipids, vitamin E isoforms, and 5-hydroxytryptophan.

    Experimental approaches span molecular analysis of gene expression, cell signaling, mutant mouse models of allergic disease, and use of patient samples.

    Experience with mouse models of allergic disease, flow cytometry, molecular biology, dendritic cell culture, or high pressure liquid chromatography is preferred. Candidates with first author publications and good spoken and written English will be given priority.

    The candidate will be part of a multi-lab program with strengths in cytokine and inflammatory cell biology, airway physiology, and models of disease with access to appropriate patient samples for analysis.

    The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness. With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

    PhD in immunology or a related field is required
