Summary

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately October through June, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.



Duties

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

This position performs maintenance and facilities supports duties for approximately 3 miles of trails, over 100 acres of developed areas, one visitor center, one contact station, two restroom facilities, and various outdoor structures throughout two park units. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions. Work requires lifting and moving heavy items, frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions and may involve some climbing.

Major duties include:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and custodial duties at the Visitor Center, park grounds, and Contact Station.
  • Maintain walkways and trails (paved and unpaved), landscapes, parking areas, and roadside areas.
  • Perform simple and routine maintenance and repair of exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities.
  • Grounds maintenance duties including mowing, fertilizing, watering, and trimming trees and hedges.
  • Manual labor tasks, minor painting, and carpentry repairs and plumbing repairs.
  • Clean and service restrooms and perform recycling and trash collection duties.
  • Operate a variety of motor vehicles to and from work sites and park units.
This position performs a variety of duties within the full spectrum of maintenance activities, including:
  • Reading technical manuals.
  • Masonry work, roofing, and welding.
  • Assisting higher-graded employees with more complex building maintenance, landscaping and grounds projects and other special projects.
  • Performing construction and repair work on park's boundary fence.
  • Operating gas and electric power tools such as drills, disc grinders, sanders, saws, post augers, riding, and push-type mowers, weed trimmers, vacuums, and other similar equipment.
For routine maintenance and repair jobs, this position works independently based on oral or written guidance from the supervisor.
