Summary:
Barr is seeking a GIS specialist to join our team in Duluth . This position involves GIS work including map and figure creation, data formatting and editing, data management, data analysis, and quality control. This person will act as the primary internal consultant for GIS projects in the office where they are based.Responsibilities will require identifying , determining , and communicating GIS best practices and resources for technical solutions for both internal and external clients.
Project responsibilities may include working with and interpreting aerial photos, performing analysis of both raster and vector data, completing database entries and queries, performing database management, working with internet map applications, coordinating GIS work with other software applications ( AutoCAD, Google Earth), and using standard GIS extensions. The person in this position will primarily work on projects for large clients in the fuels and mining industries , working with a variety of team s to provide high-quality GIS products and exceptional client service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or related GIS fieldDemonstrated interest in GIS and cartography with minimum of 16 credits of GIS courseworkExperience with Esri's ArcGIS 10.x or ArcGIS Pro Suite for map creation, spatial data analysis, and data managementKnowledge of public or private data sources (USGS, EPA, NOAA, ESRI)Ability and willingness to work independently or on teamsAttention to detail and strong organizational skillsA flexible working style, self-motivation, strong time management skills and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to meet project commitmentsCapacity to thrive in fast-paced , dynamic work situationsConscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of resultsStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Certificate in Geographic Information SystemsField experience working with Trimble TerraSync or ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps/Survey123 mobile data collection applications (including iPad applications)Experience with GPS data collection and processingExperience working with Esri's ArcGIS OnlineExperience with ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabases Scripting/programming skills (JavaScript, Python)Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, gINT
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Duluth, Minnesota, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain, steep slopes, and dense vegetation. Job assignments may also involve work on construction and industrial sites with limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
