APRN provider will demonstrate clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which include diagnosis and management of a range of health problems within Loyola's Breast Medical Oncology Program. Provider communicates effectively with patients, families, providers and staff and develops appropriate educational systems in areas of expertise. Participation in projects, programs and other activities which support clinical practice, practice operations, and quality improvement is expected. The Breast Oncology APRN role includes mentoring graduate students and collaboration with Loyola's School of Nursing. Candidate is responsible for maintaining necessary licensure and completion of continuing education requirements.

Clinical Practice: Utilizes advanced practice knowledge to identify, prevent, or solve complex and/or recurring patient care issues within an assigned breast oncology population. This is performed in accordance with practice guidelines per state and hospital regulations.

Understands the complex medical environments of patients who have breast cancer including, but not limited to, those with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction

Manages independent outpatient medical oncology clinical practice and coverage for collaborating providers

Conducts comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with breast cancer who have acute, chronic, and/or potential health problems

Records and interprets patient data

Confers with collaborating physician and other health professionals in area of clinical expertise

Orders necessary diagnostic tests, consultations and procedures as necessary or as requested by the attending physician

Reviews and interprets radiology, pathology, and laboratory results as well as indications for testing

Performs (oversees/assures completion of) specialized procedures particular to the breast oncology population mutually agreed upon with collaborating physician

Identifies pertinent patient care and health delivery problems for investigation

Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs as indicated

Completes disability paperwork for patients

Triages urgent referrals

Prescribes medications/medication refills while adhering to hospital policies for medication administration as necessary

Completes and submits billing for services in a timely and accurate manner

Communication:

Returns patient phone calls

Communicates results and plan to patients and families as well as all referring providers and MD of record

Serves as an information resource for patients and their families

Provides mentorship with feedback to assigned learners

Assists in coordination of interface between inpatient and outpatient care

Works effectively with multidisciplinary team members

Qualifications:

Education:

Master's or Doctorate's Degree in Nursing

Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program approved by the Illinois Board of Nursing

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and current or pending licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois

Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board

Current DEA license or eligibility to obtain

BLS from American Heart Association

Current Oncology Nurse Certification or obtain within 1-2 years of hire

Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
