This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.



Duties
  • Responsible for leading the radioactive waste program under the NIST broad scope license including collection, characterization, packaging and shipping.
  • Responsible for making recommendations and providing technical support to procurement activities related to radioactive waste.
  • Responsible for acting as liaison with the NIST Center for Neutron Research in support of the NIST broad scope license and the Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Conducts work to protect NIST personnel and environments from the hazards of ionizing radiation and identifies and evaluates potential radiation hazards.
  • Develops procedures to eliminate, control, or minimize radiation exposure and monitors operating programs involving radiation sources to ensure license conditions compliance.
  • Collects data and maintains records on radiation levels and personnel exposures.
  • Participates in activities such as instrument maintenance and calibration, decontamination, and shipping and receiving of radioactive material and workers training.
  • Provides technical support for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of samples through specific physical methodologies; prepares samples; conducts analysis; assists in analysis of data; calibrates, operates, and conducts quality assurance on analysis instrumentation.
