Advanced Therapies Evaluation Coordinator

We have a full-time, hybrid, day shift opportunity for an Advanced Therapies Evaluation Coordinator at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Advanced Therapies Evaluation Coordinator serves as the main contact point for new patients and referring physicians undergoing evaluations for advanced therapies. Collects all clinical information from patient/referral source, expedites communication and the completion of patient evaluations for transplantation by coordinating with the patient financial coordinator, the transplant/VAD nurse coordinator, the patient, the referring physician, and insurance company case managers.

The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm.

Education
  • Associate degree required.
  • Relevant MedStar Washington Hospital experience (minimum of three years) may be substituted for degree.
Experience
  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job related experience required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Successful completion of the IDX Master Scheduler training within 180 Days required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish priorities, perform assignments and meet productivity thresholds in the allotted time frames while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Schedules required appointments and testing, coordinating with other departments to ensure testing occurs on same day where possible.Obtain referrals and authorizations for office visits, testing and procedures; runs benefit checks as appropriate.Educates and informs the patient and family on the evaluation process, the requirements for testing and the need for referrals as appropriate.Creates an education packet for the patient to include instructions for testing, a schedule of all visits consults and assessments and reviews packet with the patient. Prepares documentation for transplant coordinators in preparation for presentation at Committee.Assists financial and transplant coordinators with verification of transplant coverage and other medical benefits, obtaining detailed patient insurance benefit information for all aspects of the transplant process, including, but not limited to, outpatient prescription drugs, follow-up clinic visits, and follow up testing as appropriate.
