At Moses Brown School, 100 faculty members serve nearly 800 students ages 3-18, with an overall student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1. We offer a rigorous academic program, and highly motivated upper school students can also choose from among dozens of AP and honors courses for additional challenge. Small classes and advisories help cultivate the strong connections with faculty that are a hallmark of the Upper School.

The student experience is incredibly varied, including 17 musical and performance groups across the school, 50 clubs and activities, and 67 athletic teams competing in 17 different sports. And while individual achievement is celebrated, learning at Moses Brown is a shared enterprise. We foster a close sense of community, evident in collaborative relationships between students and teachers and in our weekly meeting for worship.

Responsibilities: Moses Brown seeks a full-time English teacher to start in fall 2024. The successful applicant will teach four sections of English at multiple levels (9th-12th grade), with specific teaching responsibilities to be determined with the English department.

Working collaboratively with other members of the English department is important to our school culture. In addition, teachers work closely with students outside of the classroom during office hours and for occasional extra help outside of these times. All full-time teachers also supervise two co-curricular activities after school. After the first year at Moses Brown, teachers also serve as advisors for 8-12 students. In addition to the core teaching responsibilities, Moses Brown teachers are expected to serve on committees, attend school meetings, and have yearly co-curricular responsibilities. All Upper School faculty are asked to lead an advisory starting in their second year at the school.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited institution. Two to five years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application. Master's degree or beyond is desirable. We seek candidates who are passionate about their desire to teach, advise, and learn from high school students, committed to working collaboratively, and eager to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of the school. We value experience designing education for a digital platform and the flexibility those skill sets can offer.

Candidates should have a relevant academic background and a demonstrated commitment to and proficiency in cultural competency. A broad range of experience teaching English and/or related fields from non-dominant perspectives would be welcome. We seek applicants who are able to foster intellectual curiosity in students, and will engage them in thinking critically about the world, and who embrace a pedagogy that uses a variety of modalities to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners.

A focus on strong verbal and written communication skills is essential.
