As Senior Meat Scientist at Corbion, you will play a strategically important, customer-facing role, using your expertise in applied meat science and years of manufacturing experience to help create and apply innovative solutions that grow the company's meat and poultry business.   • Serve as an essential resource for applied meat science expertise for members of the Corbion Sales team, customers and internal innovation teams.
  • Work side-by-side with customers to solve their meat formulation and application challenges.
  • Serve as meat science expert for customers and sales in regard to the use of Corbion ingredients, application guidelines, formulations, production methods, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Serve as a meat expert resource to customers in the development of protocols for pilot plant trials, in-plant formula implementation, troubleshooting; engage other subject matter experts to ensure scientific rigor and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Keep internal (colleagues') meat technology and ingredient knowledge up-to-date by conducting training sessions, and coaching project teams and individuals.
  • Develop and maintain Corbion's meat solutions expertise in external forums for industry associations, academia and customers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver meat industry innovation strategy through successful execution of key platforms.
  • Provide training to further develop Meat Technology and Ingredient expertise in Sales, Research and Development, and other functions when required, encompassing knowledge management and the transfer of technical information.
  • Work with other subject matter experts in technology and application teams (as well as external parties/networks) to enhance the quality of research and development contributions to Meat-related projects, providing both technical and industry insights.
  • Identify, translate and apply relevant scientific knowledge to projects and the business.
  • Is key knowledge carrier of meat science in terms of preservation, oxidation, ingredient interaction.
  • Leads the management of the meat lab.
  • Recognize and flag conflicting priorities quickly to enable timely resolution by the leadership team.
  • Safeguard the scientific integrity and effectiveness of the application team.
  • Provide accurate and appropriate data reporting and management of application knowledge for use by Sales and the business.
  • Conduct and/or manage application/innovation projects independently and/or in collaboration with internal and external partners. This includes ideation, reviewing and identifying new projects, developing and executing technical plans, collecting and analyzing data, communicating results and project status, generating reports, making presentations, and transferring bench-top development to pilot or plant scale production.
  • Contribute to cross-functional project teams that may include representatives/peers from Research and Development, Sales, Technical Services, Business, Marketing, Operations, etc., as the needs of the project dictate.
  • Provide oversight and management to exploit any synergies between multiple initiatives, helping to ensure that work is completed efficiently; adjust priorities as needed; establish management routines to effectively track progress and identify issues; remove barriers and leverage resources to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in meat science, an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related industry experience.
  • Extensive meat science formulation, application, and functional ingredient experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
  • Ability to set up and effectively manage a pilot meat facility.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people/audiences having different levels of expertise and technical knowledge; ability to present technical information at the appropriate level of sophistication to customers, technical conferences and upper management.
  • Up-to-date, working knowledge of meat manufacturing processes, food safety microbiology and industry best practices.
  • Substantive network within the meat and food ingredient industry, academia and associations.
  • Passion and motivation to achieve superior results with strong customer focus and a can-do mentality.
  • Creativity, knowledge and a team-oriented approach focused on helping Corbion deliver innovative solutions that make an impact in meat formulation and processing.
