Executive Director of Development, Foundation Relations

Serves as the chief fundraising and solicitation officer of
Foundations for the University. Provides strategic and operational
leadership in the successful development, implementation, ongoing
management and continued growth of a comprehensive fund-raising
program and department in support of the University, its mission,
vision, and campaign goals. Works with the Senior Vice
President to develop and execute annual fund-raising goals
(including leadership and prinicpal giving: $500k+) and operational
plans. Develops effectiv and productive working relationships
with internal and external constituents.

securing foundation support.
Identifies emerging foundation program trends with special
emphasis on identifying high value opportunities and partnerships
that align with FIU priorities and emerging opportunities.
Identifies, cultivates, and solicits foundation support in the five
and six figure range (and larger) to secure philanthropic
commitments to support the mission and goals of the
University.
Works closely with academic units' leadership and faculty and
other university representatives to create and align potential
foundation support and to expand the portfolio of foundation
support for the University.
Advises and supports faculty, administrators and staff on
Foundation opportunities and help facilitate and guide proposals,
white papers, impact statements and other support materials
necessary to build and expand relationships with local, national
and international foundations.
Serves as a liaison in the development of highly competitive
proposals for foundation prospects. In collaboration with the
principal investigator/program director and, as required with the
office of research, provide effective stewardship support to ensure
that all reporting requirements are met and opportunities to
appropriately engage the donor in the funded program are explored
and implemented.
Meets with and personally solicits previous and potential
donors on campus, nationally, internationally and throughout the
community. Travels nationally and internationally to cultivate and
solicit prospects. Attends meetings, gatherings or University
sponsored events. Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of
these duties.
Provides leadership and proactively participates in the
stewardship, oversight and collection of gifts, pledges and grants
related to advancement within the assigned unit. Ensures the use of
funds, including awarding of scholarship funds established by
charitable donations in the school.
Serves as a key member of the University Advancement
team. Participates in and adheres to university-wide prospect
management guidelines for cultivation and stewardship of donors and
prospects. Attends all development meetings as required.
Develops and implements an annual strategic work plan and
solicitation matrix that focuses on the internal and external
objectives of University Advancement and the University.
Ensures the cooperative participation of Development staff in the
University prospect management and tracking system, as well as with
University alumni relations.
Communicates effectively with the Advancement staff.
Collaborates with other University Advancement team members to
inspire trust, encourage creative thinking, and collaborate with
other FIU staff and volunteers to significantly increase gifts to
FIU.
May handle donated funds in the forms of checks or negotiable
securities. Accesses confidential information regarding gifts and
donors.
Represents the University and/or the college at public
functions as needed.
Displays honesty, integrity and ethics to donors at all times
in the performance of duties. Must also display a high degree of
confidentiality. Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor,
and work habits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and twelve (12) years of experience with seven
(7) years of experience in fundraising. Supervises/ manages
subordinate staff.
