Summary

This position is located in Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park, in the Interpretation Division.

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately October through June, and you will be in a non-pay statusfor the remainder of the year.



Duties

Major Duties of this position include:

  • Present information talks, guided tours, and demonstrations, following a prescribed outline, to various audiences to inform or educate.
  • Utilize interpretive techniques to facilitate emotional and/or intellectual connections between the audiences' interest and their surroundings.
  • Provide quality internal and external customer service.
  • Respond verbally and electronically to visitor inquiries for more information, direction, and guidance.
  • Assist in the preparation of interpretive products for digital platforms.
  • Operate government vehicles, audiovisual equipment, computers, telephones, point of sales register, and radio systems.
  • Work closely with division colleagues and other divisions to ensure the safety of visitors, employees, and the public.

AREA INFORMATION:

Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is located in Brownsville, Texas, a city of over 100,000 people. Brownsville has all modern facilities. Housing is moderately priced and plentiful. However, rental property is limited, especially during the winter season. Located about 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and South Padre Island, Brownsville has a maritime weather pattern. Rain fall averages about 17" a year. Summer temperatures are hot and humid while winter temperatures are usually moderate, although infrequent, freezes do occur. Brownsville possesses a bi-cultural environment with the majority of the inhabitants speaking both English and Spanish. There is no government housing. Matamoros, Mexico, is adjacent to Brownsville.
